CHEVROLET'S TAHOE HYBRID - THE WORLD'S FIRST TWO-MODE HYBRID
By Colin Ayres - EcoCarOnline.com

It saves on fuel. Offers driving pleasure and performance. And its body looks more like a concept car than a hybrid model.
The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, due to be released as a 2008 model, delivers a 25-percent improvement in fuel economy and a superior
driving experience through a Vortec V-8 engine and Active Fuel ManagementT cylinder deactivation technology.
The backbone of the Tahoe's performance is GM's patented two-mode full hybrid system featuring two modes optimized for city and highway driving.
In the first mode, at low speed and light loads, the vehicle can operate in three ways: electric power only, engine power only or any combination
of both. When operating under electric power only, it provides all the fuel saving benefits of a full hybrid system. The second mode is used
primarily at highway speeds. In addition to electric assist, this mode delivers full eight-cylinder engine power when conditions demand it,
such as when passing, pulling a trailer or climbing a steep grade. A sophisticated controller determines when the vehicle should operate in
either of the two modes.

The Tahoe Hybrid touts additional aerodynamic elements and other special features such as prominent hybrid badges and a shining exterior
finish, that help to make this model a complete hybrid. Of course, it also maintains it's most important performance attributes, such as
off-road capability, 6,000 pound towing capability, relatively fast 0-60 mph acceleration, a truly sporty exterior and a refined, elegant
interior.
The earliest reviews rave about improved handling, quietness, safety, security, and of course, efficiency.
The release of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid will coincide with the release of the Chevy Yukon Hybrid - yet another highlight in the
automaker's effort to take the lead in the hybrid technology race.
